Confirmation is one of the three Sacraments of Christian Initiation, together with Baptism and the Eucharist.
In Confirmation, a baptized Catholic is strengthened by the gift of the Holy Spirit and more firmly united with Christ and His Church. Through the sacrament, we receive a special outpouring of the Holy Spirit to help us live our Catholic faith courageously, bear witness to Christ, and continue His mission in the world.
At Confirmation, the bishop or priest anoints the candidate with Sacred Chrism and says:
“Be sealed with the Gift of the Holy Spirit.”
The same Holy Spirit who strengthened the Apostles at Pentecost continues to strengthen the Church, and each of us for the work Christ calls us to do.
The Gifts of the Holy Spirit
Through Confirmation, the Holy Spirit strengthens us with His seven gifts:
Wisdom • Understanding • Counsel • Fortitude • Knowledge • Piety • Fear of the Lord
These gifts help us grow closer to God, discern what is good and true, and live as faithful disciples of Jesus Christ.
Preparing for Confirmation
Confirmation is more than a ceremony or a milestone to complete. It is an invitation to a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ and a more mature commitment to living the Catholic faith.
Our parish communities of St. Jude the Apostle and St. Michael the Archangel accompany young people and their families as they prepare to receive this important sacrament.
Preparation includes opportunities to grow in prayer, deepen understanding of the Catholic faith, participate in the life of the Church, serve others, and reflect on what it means to follow Jesus as His disciple.
Parents, families, and Confirmation sponsors also have an important role in supporting and encouraging candidates throughout their preparation.
